A midweek miscellany

Today’s post does not have a single theme.  It’s a mixture of images, each of which has its own story to tell, each of which shows an area of my photographic interest.

Here’s a shot from a town’s bonfire night celebrations last year.  They had fire-eaters as a diversion before the main fireworks event.  It was hard to get into a good place to have a clear view of the fire-eater, and also hard to choose the right moment to press the shutter.  I was pleased with the flame on this one.  A nice tight crop to the corner and editing out some background distractions made the composition work better.

Last weekend was Heritage Open Days, where historic buildings open their doors to the public.  With some it’s free entry when there’s normally a charge.  With others it’s opening buildings that don’t normally open to the public.  The Bishop’s Palace in Worcester is one the latter buildings.  It was fascinating to wander round it and into the garden.  In the garden there was a pear tree with odd growths on its leaves.  A bit of Google Lens work identified them as being from a fungus called “Pear Rust”.  To me it looked like the pear tree had lots of very small birthday cakes on its leaves!

Finally, of course, it’s an abstract.  I’m putting a new club talk together about Abstract Photography.  I posted on a camera club Facebook group about it and it looks like it could be quite popular.  This image uses ICM, and I’ve simplified it so it’s like a Suprematist image.  It’s been reduced to its photographic essentials of shape and colour.  Keep an eye open for more news about my new talk.
