“Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness”

OK, so it’s now winter rather than Keats’ autumn, but the mists thing is still true.  Tied in with mists there are other sorts of wetness, such as rain and condensation, and even melted frost.  Yes, I know this is a tenous link for some water droplet images, but bear with me!

It rained a week or so ago, and one sunny morning some lingering rain droplets were sat on a twig of one of our Japanese maple trees.  I liked the way they were in a fairly regular line, and there were some fab reflections/refractions in each drop, so I popped my 60mm macro lens on to my OM camera body. The garden hedge in the background was far enough away for it to be nicely out of focus.

I chose one droplet on another part of the tree and I defocused the lens to give a nice Bokeh circle.  There were also some fab defocused areas giving spectra.  The darker background, of a hedge in shadow, allowed the colours to stand out more.  It’s the same tree but the images look completely different.

We live in an old house, so indoors there was some condensation on one of the windows.  The defocused lens, set at its maximum aperture, produced lots of lovely Bokeh circles with spectral lines.  I’ve flipped the image so the bright cluster is in the bottom right-hand corner; the composition works better that way.
